[»] Last release?
by Alan Eliasen - Jan 12th 2007 17:44:46

Why does last release show version 0.17 in early 2005? Do the maintainers actually post new releases here, or have they forgotten about Freshmeat? Is it worth subscribing?

This is an amazing project. It is a full working system and is great to use.
If you run into any problems installing or using the system check PVR Guide for helpful install guides on MythTV and the mailing lists.

[»] MythTV is simply a must for couch potatoes
by accura2k - Oct 25th 2003 05:21:24

The install is about the only thing that people might have problems with. Once setup, this can make a persons computer part of the living room. I am considering buying a linux box simply for mythtv now! The commercial skipping feature is simply one of a kind. I've looked for a feature like this for ages without success, until I found mythtv. Commercials in the 15 of the 15 I've recorded so far have been perfectly removed. This software is truely the best PVR software that I've had any luck with. Once the install is complete, everything is easy after then. I recommend this for couch potatoes =)

    [»] Install troubles
    by nil0lab - Jun 10th 2004 08:56:38

Yeah, the install is still a bear.

I got a box for it that looked ideal as a media box: low noise, small box.

First problem: VIA C3 CPU. Had to apt-get source, adjust the -march (pentiompro -> i586) in settings.pro and compile before it would even run.

Second problem: sets up, records, but won't play. Actually when the recording is selected, it plays the video in the little window on the right (with no sound, but that might be normal in a preview window) but when I press Enter, I get a full screen of blue. It looks like it's trying to display TV (there are vertical bars that look kind of like interlacing) but no luck.

I bet there'd be a market for media boxes with mythtv preinstalled but the vendors would probably run into legal trouble over the commercial removal feature like Tivo and Replay did.

The last few releases have made the installation process a bit less painful and now it's even bordering on easy. If you were chased off by the barrier to entry in the past, give it a try now

[»] Great project!
by Ken VanDine - Apr 8th 2003 15:43:30

I have to comment on this, MythTV is a great project. It is well polished and is being developed amazingly fast. It also has a great community of developers and users, very helpful.

With Myth you can create the ultimate media center. I have been using mine now for more than two months and have been very pleased.

Thanks for all the hard work!

[»] Fantastic!
by r1ckt3r - Feb 24th 2003 16:54:53

This project is absolutely awesome. It isn't for the faint of heart though. Not that it is particularly hard to setup, but does have many dependencies. Hardware requirements are also above the norm. Trust me though, it's completely worth it.
