Hmm...
by naChoZ - Dec 28th 2004 08:27:11
Is it just me or do Lore and Pineapple Links look like modified
versions of phplinks
I just wonder because my company is considering purchase of Lore and I
wonder how a GPL violation would affect us as a business from a legal
standpoint.

Dear Sir,
We already went over this in our email correspondence. Lore and Pineapple
Links were written from scratch by our programmers. I am sure there are
dozens of scripts that they "look" like, but that simply does not mean they
are modified versions of those scripts. Software licenses and copyrights do
not cover the "look and feel" of the product. Basically every major type of
script will have many scripts that look exactly like it (take message
boards for example, they all look the same yet all use their own code). The
reason Pineapple Links looks like Lore is because it is a stripped down and
modified version of Lore.
I personally have never even used phplinks. I would hope you could give us
the benefit of the doubt that we are not so foolish as to copy a GPL script
and try to market it professionally. Once you see the source code after
purchasing and are able to compare it to phplinks, I believe you find that
not only are our scripts not modified versions of phplinks but they are not
even inspired by it to begin with. If you think phplinks has the same code,
we'll refund your payment immediately.
