 NoMachine NX - Client branch
Sections: Mac OS X, Unix

Added: Sun, Apr 13th 2003 02:41 UTC (5 years, 2 months ago) Updated: Thu, Jun 26th 2008 12:40 UTC (11 days ago)

Screenshot About:
NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server and desktop virtualization system based on the X11 protocol. NX is an order of magnitude faster than VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec. In addition, NX translates and embeds the MS Windows Terminal Server and VNC protocols into X/NX, enabling users to compress and accelerate remote Windows and VNC sessions. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and X11 proxying agents implementing efficient compression and optimized transport of X11, SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio and video over the Internet.

After a quick e-mail to nomachine, my problem was from
using a modified server. Very helpful support and definatly
the most useful piece of software I have used in a very long
    time.

[»] Installation instructions for Kubuntu/Ubuntu users
by Mrs. Karen Debbie - Sep 20th 2006 15:39:08

NX is great - MUCH faster than VNC! But I do NOT recommend using FreeNX unless you want an exercise in frustration, or at least have access to the older client software (that, at least, seems to work, but not perfectly - in particular, I had font display issues when using FreeNX that I could not resolve, even after many hours of effort).

For those using Ubuntu or Kubuntu Linux, or who want to access their Linux box from a Windows machine using NX, you may find the instructions in this blog post useful:

Wow, I think you just managed to distract me from my "work" for quite a long time. This is awesome. Thanks.

[»] NX/NoMachine is terrific!
by Kurt Pfeifle - May 10th 2004 09:46:56

I keep going from one surprise to the next.

Having tested your latest snapshot releases, you seem to have added even more speed gains to this terrific software you have developed.

I am now looking forward to your 1.3.2 and 1.4 releases. NX is truely awesome!

I wish you all the best. Keep going.

Cheers,
Kurt

[»] Free server?
by NoXide - Sep 11th 2003 05:01:02

Is there somebody that has found a way to use their GPLed software to build a free server? I searched on google but couldn't find anything.

You can already do whatever the commercial NX software
is doing by running the GPL components on the command
    line.

Here is a document explaining how to put the different pieces
    together: http://www.nomachine.com/dev_build.php

An OSS version of both the client GUI and the server manager
are going to be developed as part of the KDE project with
the full support of NoMachine. Here is the announcement:

[»] NX with Win4Lin
by NoXide - Sep 11th 2003 04:56:48

I've Win4Lin (http://www.netraverse.com/) on one of my computers at office. I installed NX server on the same computer and I can now run Windows from home, through dial-up. It works better than the native RDP support I tested on XP.

by CherryDaw - Sep 10th 2003 07:16:12

This is the fastest remote desktop solution I have ever tried.
I ran it side by side with Citrix and NX is faster, at least running
X11 desktops. The fact they include a fully functional X server
for Windows and a SSH client also makes it a good replacement
for Exceed.

[»] NX Core is Open-Sourced
by linux - Apr 13th 2003 02:53:33

Although the NX is commercialware, the NX Core is GPLed.

The Source Files are available.

NX client works great on Windows, but i can not get it to work on a Mac OSX10 It needed X11 to be installed, but it still no luck. I tested ssh works to the remote server, i am trying to connect to. NX Authentication passes, but after that it prompts the login page again.
